Camping, hiking and fishing at Chandra Taal Lake in the beautiful Himalayas beats crowded cities any day!
There’s touring and then there’s traveling. Yes, a difference does exist, one not being any better or worse than the other. It’s all about preference.
Some of you may enjoy touring cities and famous landmarks while others looks to escape the pangs of crowded streets and stick to nature herself.
India offers a chance to do both, so long as you have a current passport and India visa.
With dozens of bustling cities and an abundance of land, surely a place of peace and serenity exists. Chandra Taal Lake is one such area of unmatched beauty.
Named for its resemblance to a crescent moon, Chandra Taal Lake is a definite must for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and being in nature. Unlike other popular landscapes, bursting with wide-eyed visitors, this lake is a bit more quiet and hidden away from tourist attractions.
High above the sea, at around 4300 meters (about 14,000 feet), the lake blankets a valley in the Himalayas. It’s a manageable drive, just be careful and watch for signs to the lake. It’s not as easily accessible as most natural settings and you have to walk to get to it.
One of the most striking and distinguishable attributes to Chandra Taal is the rich, deep blue color of freshwater. Depending on where the sun is in the sky or where you decide to stand and observe, blue dazzles and dances into your eye, leaving behind a calming effect. A perfectly positioned sand dune cups the lake and can make for some fun climbing or sliding.
Besides admiring raw beauty, there are quite a few outdoor quests you can partake in such as hiking or camping. Bring all that you need up there, including food as there’s not a town close by. Be sure to dress warmly.
Even during the summer months, it’s quite cold and oxygen is thinner. Pitch your tent and start a campfire under the stars.
Can you even begin to imagine the amount of the universe you could see without city lights blotting the sky out? If you have any skill with photography or even own a telescope, this is one place you should be taking advantage of! Star trails with the reflection on the calm lake, wow!
Enjoy the view of crisp blue waters and delightful scenery up in the Himalayas.
